Discover some secrets of our indigenous people, the Maori.
Take part in a powhiri (welcome), learn some basic te reo (language), visit a sacred site & listen to some maori tales. You'll also experience a guided tour of Te Papa seeing some maori taonga (treasures) After a break for kai (lunch/food) we'll head on out & check out the sights in our beautiful city. From Mount Victoria lookout to our coastline & even a ride on the cable car. We visit Botanical Gardens then Parliament & the Beehive. What an action packed day in Wellington!

Discover Māori: Itinerary Items
Half Day

You will be collected from your central hotel, at the port or at the iSite

We’ll head to the Wharewaka on Wellingtons spectacular waterfront, a short 5 minute drive
-
Take part in a traditional powhiri (traditional welcoming ceremony) including a traditional maori greeting called a hongi!

We’ll take the time to learn a little bit of maori language
-
Visit the CIty to Sea bridge & listen to some maori mythology
-
We’ll head down to the Kupe statue & hear about his discovery of Wellington
-
For something super special, we’ll check out the remains of an ancient maori pa
-
To round out the tour, we’re off to the national museum called Te Papa where you’ll be guided on a 1 hour maori taonga (treasures) tour

We’ll make our way out towards Lyall Bay beach & take a leisurely wander around the spectacular Wellington coastline

Jump out & check out the Weta Cave & the Weta retail store

Jump in the Cable Car for a ride. All aboard!

Head on down to the Botanical Gardens

Visit where our country is run, Parliament buildings & the beehive

Last but not least, check out the Treaty of Waitangi
